David Perry Steorts passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022. He was born on January 20, 1939, to James Earl Steorts and Elizabeth Carter Steorts in Mullens WV. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Catherine Luther Steorts of Mechanicsville, and 4 children. Ann Patry (Scott) of Montross, VA., Kelly Gwathmey (John Owen) of Aylett VA, Beth Rattiram (Ravi) of Landisville, PA., and Steven T. Steorts of Jonesborough, TN., and 12 grandchildren. Also survived by siblings Ronald C. Steorts of Ashburn, VA, and Cecelia Lewis of Richmond VA. Preceded in death by brother James Steorts. David was a graduate of Princeton WV. High and Greenbrier Military School and graduated from Concord College in 1962. He was an outstanding athlete lettering in track, football, and basketball and in his later years became an avid golfer. He taught and coached at Fort Chiswell High, Princeton High, Giles High, William Byrd High, and Cave Spring High Schools living most of his life in Roanoke, VA. After leaving teaching he worked for Horace Mann Insurance Co. until his retirement in 2004 when he then moved to the Northern Neck of VA. David enjoyed working at a part-time job at Hobbs Hole Golf Course and working around his home gardening and mowing, golfing, and meeting the "guys' for coffee. Our lives will greatly miss David's love of music, discovering and sharing a "new" song, and his non-stop humor. He was always ready to share a laugh and see you smile.
