Helen G. (Brown) Katzen
Helen G. (Brown) Katzen, 98, of Williamstown, WV, departed this life on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at her residence. She was born December 22, 1920 in West Union, WV, a daughter of the late Charles Fred and Gussie Elizabeth (Freeman) Brown.
Helen was a proud graduate of Doddridge County High School with the class of 1937 and went on to attend Clarksburg Business College. Her working career started at Keister Motors of Clarksburg, WV as a bookkeeper. She went on to work for various car dealerships in Gallipolis, OH and Welch, WV. She later retired from McDowell Supply Company of Welch, WV in which she was the co-owner alongside her late husband. The McDowell Supply Company building was donated to the city of Welch by Emanuel and Helen Katzen and was converted into apartments for teachers. Helen was a 75 year member of the Welch Order of Easter Star and was also named Welch person of the year.
Helen was a current member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Parkersburg, WV. Since childhood, she was a member of the West Union Christian Church where she sang on the Clarksburg radio alongside her sisters and they were featured in The Lookout Magazine. Her long life was a reward for the care she provided her parents. She was a caring Aunt and she was well loved by her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emanuel Levitt Katzen; sisters, Ruth Hayhurst, Beulah Stewart, Mabel Taggart, Bernadine Tucker, and her brothers, Kenneth Brown, Donald Brown, and infant brother, Harry.
Helen leaves behind her nieces, Sarah Maston of Ravenswood, WV; Barbara Gysegem of Baltimore, MD and Betty Joan Brown of Williamstown, WV; nephews, James Lyndon Brown of Parkersburg, WV; Charles Fred Brown of Morton, MN and David Stewart of West Union, WV, along with several loving great nieces and great nephews.
Graveside services will take place 11am, Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the West Union Masonic Memorial Park, near West Union, WV with Pastor Jon Lands officiating. Visitation will be from 9am-10am on Saturday, at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV.
